Getting Involved Part 2 |
 |
|
When God saved you, He saved you for a purpose. Your salvation was not only to deliver you from the death of Hell and give you eternal life. There is more to it than that. That is why you are still here. He has a calling for you. Every child of God has a ministry, a work that He has for us. He will reveal that calling to you as you seek His will for your life. There are general duties or responsibilities, however, which we all are to be doing. When you learn about God you will find that He is not lazy. God is a worker. All of creation is His work. You are a product of His work, and He intends that you should also be a worker. Let us now explore the work you can do.
Be a Winess. Tell others about Jesus Christ. As you go, tell lost people about the free salvation of Christ. Tell them the “Good News,” share the gospel. This is something, which every saved person can do. You may not have all the answers to their questions, but you can tell them of your salvation experience. Don’t be afraid to witness, and don’t withhold your knowledge of Christ from the lost. Don’t worry about saying the wrong thing. Yes, it is all new to you, but the Holy Spirit is using you and doing His work with you. So be courageous and speak out.
Be a faithful church member. Your level of spirituality will be in direct proportion to your church attendance. In church you are in God’s house, and in the presence of the Lord. In church you are among other faithful and committed Christians. It is a place where the love of God abounds. From this fellowship you grow and are strengthened. You are among people who are concerned about you. Being in church you receive the Word through the teachings and preaching of godly people. You gain wisdom and understanding. You have access to the experiences of older Christians who can advise you in practical daily matters. Not only is it a place for you to learn, but it is also a place for you to worship God. Be eager to serve in your church. If something needs to be done, then volunteer for it. Try your best to be a blessing in your church. (If you find yourself in a church where the above attributes are lacking continue your search, for this is not for you.)
Be a giving person. In your church give your offerings to the Lord. Your offerings can be money, but they can be other things also. You are to offer your time to God. Give up your time for your personal reading; study the Bible. Give up your time to help others when they need you. Be willing to share what you possess with others. Remember, all that you have came form God. If you love material things more than God, you are robbing God and yourself. God may never ask you to give up all things, but be willing to do it if He does. Anything God asks you to give up is either bad for you or He has something greater to give you in place of it.
God has given you talents. Use those talents for Him. If you can sing then sing for His glory and so on. Do for him the things that you can do. These can be almost anything. Don’t ever think that you have nothing to offer or that you have no talent. You are useful to God and His service. Others may be called to perform great things for God, but remember, nothing is so minor as to be unimportant with God. There could be talents are abilities in you that you never knew about until God develops them. The key is that you try, and don’t tell yourself, “I can’t.” The Bible is full of stories about people who said they couldn’t until God said they could. If God calls you to do something, keep in mind that you and God can do anything! The important point is your willingness to try.
Have it in your heart to become a discple of Christ, but understand the cost.
(Eccl. 12:13) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
(Eccl. 12:14) For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
